It's been forever since our last adoption update, and mostly that's because of well, life. I don't often get time to sit back and really process what is happening when it all happens so fast all the time. Things have changed here at the Chleb compound. Big time. But, through it all we are seeing God't faithfulness and goodness prevail time and again.
Just a little over a month ago, the two oldest adoptive boys left our home. While the specifics aren't for public knowledge, it can simply be stated that it needed to happen. It wasn't what Joe or I ever wanted to occur, and we prayed over it at length, but ultimately, it became evident that it was the only option. We have maintained contact with them and truly desire to continue our relationships with them- just in a different capacity than we originally thought. We trust that God's plan for what our family looks like is sovereign, and since we don't really care to "fit in" with everyone else's idea of normal, we will continue to thank Him for the opportunity to plant seeds in their hearts and look for ways to minister to them. It should be noted that ALL of our kids miss them, and our younger bio kids ask about them as much if not more than their own bio sibs do. We are still very much in the middle of a transition time, trying to figure out what our relationship will ultimately look like, but again, we are letting God lead us in that process.
As the school year winds down and Summer breaklooms beckons, I am on the lookout for daycamps and activities to help fill some of our time. While I don't by any means want to schedule ALL of our time, we are realizing that structure is a REALLY big help for our larger family. It creates a sense of stability and safety for our newest kiddos and well, honestly, this mama just doesn't want to hear, "I'm bored!" all day every day for 2 months. ;)
Of course, the other thing the quickly approaching Summer break means is our return to Uganda and Ethiopia- this time with Jack! He has been loving every second of preparing for the trip and was giddy when his team shirt and devotional books came this week. His fundraising is going well, and it is precious to see his reaction when he hears of the progress. He still lacks about $1000 to be fully funded, so we are prayerfully continuing to help him seek donors. I honestly think I am more excited to see how God uses him to minister to the kids than I am about any other aspect of the trip. I can't wait to see it through his eyes! Look for lots of posts from the mission field from him- they will be on his page jack.giveshareserve.org!
That's all for now. I am going to try to be better about posting as things get more exciting around here. Our adoption finalization is just on the horizon and we are excited to be able to share pictures and news of that as soon as it happens! And the cool thing is, we know that is only the beginning of the amazing adventures God has in store for us!
