Running Ahead

Tonight at Canaan, Pastor George spoke to the children about making decisions for their future today. It was something that struck me as important for ALL of us to hear whether we are a child of God in Africa or America. He told about Zacheus, a short man who wanted to see Jesus. But because of his stature, he couldn't see him through the crowds.

But Zacheus knew what he wanted. He had a plan. He made a decision. His decision was to run ahead of the crowd and climb the tree so he could see this Savior. I love how Samuel related this to the kids preparing for their exams next week, but all I could think about was all of the "mzungus" I knew back home that needed to hear the same message.

And I was so thankful for the 30 of them that did just that, they ran ahead to Uganda in order to be prepared for seeing Jesus in the children we would serve here. How blessed I felt to experience being his hands and feet, and how different things could have been if they hadn't been willing to go ahead to meet Jesus. And how Great our God is that allows us to be part of his plan to care for the widows and orphans of the world. It has made the running ahead such a beautiful trip.

I wish I was there to hear the speech. Truly, orphans are among the most vulnerable of society and we all have responsibility towards them.
